Umbalite Garnet

Umbalite is a rare pyralspite garnet with a high spessartine content. Because of the high spessartine content, umbalite has a high refractive index and dispersion (even for garnet), and will cut very lively stones. Umbalite is found in the Umba River Valley region of Tanzania and ranges from a bright pinkish purple to a rich fuchsia or magenta.
